Annual Sponsored Walkathon

7th October 2016

Dear Parents,

Our annual sponsored event returns for another fun-filled afternoon on Friday 21st October.

Children will walk or jog for exactly an hour starting at 1.30 p.m., and may dress up as anything they like.

This is a popular event with the children and it is the only sponsored event we organise in the whole school year, so we would like everyone to support it as much as possible. The children really work together across the year groups and encourage and support each other throughout the hour.

All parents are most welcome to come and watch, and the School Association Committee will be selling refreshments, including cake, during and after the Walkathon. Donations of cakes to be sold on the day would be very welcome – please could you send them in with your child on Friday morning. The event will end at 2:30pm after which the children will return to their classes and be dismissed at 3:00pm as usual, however the café will remain open for a short while after school.

At the BRSA AGM it was agreed that a large proportion of the money raised by the BRSA over the next two years would go towards improving our school environment. We hope to raise £3000 at this event to begin to save for these improvements.

The form in the attachment below should be used to collect sponsorship and/or donations, and needs to be brought into school on the day of the Walkathon so that it can be signed to say how far your children have walked or run. The form complies with the requirements that will enable your School Association to reclaim tax under the Gift Aid scheme. This will significantly boost the amount raised for the benefit of the school. For all sponsors that pay tax, the BRSA Committee would be very grateful if you could obtain their consent for the tax to be reclaimed by ticking the Gift Aid box on the form. If the sponsor is not a taxpayer then simply omit a tick from the Gift Aid box for that sponsor.

Please obtain the address, including post code, as well as the name of the sponsor as this ensures compliance with the gift aid rules.

Please try to return all sponsorship money by the end of November. Thank you.

Yours sincerely
