Sustainability

At Bledlow Ridge School we want to model the best sustainability practice that we can. This includes thinking about our buildings, grounds, how we manage our resources and build a culture that cares for our local environment and the planet more widely. Children from all year groups can volunteer to take a lead in this area through our Eco-Team, but we aim to build awareness and experience of caring for nature and resources with the whole school. This includes both curriculum and enrichment activities.

Since 2024 we have worked with Let's Go Zero to monitor our action for the climate and nature (see reports and plans below). Eco-Team have been central to collecting evidence, suggesting action, communicating information to the whole school community, including parents and, of course, taking part in practical hands-on activities.

Baseline data from 2024 can be compared with Year 1 (2025). However, Met Office data confirms our memories that each month from January to May 2025 was colder than the previous year, and would have had a significant impact on our heating use. The Natural Connections project ran for 18 months through 2025 and 2026 and supported more links with our local community and local environment, building on previous work with Chiltern Rangers and engaging with artist Dan Wilson to give children more and deeper ways to connect with nature and their locality, to make a positive difference alongside other generations.
